An actress and voice artist known for her roles on Nickelodeon’s All That and the animated series Little Bill, was killed in a hit‑and‑run crash in Brooklyn, New York. She was just 33 years old. The news spread quickly through social media and newsrooms.
With many remembering Underwood as a gifted performer whose early work helped shape the childhoods of a generation of viewers — and whose life ended in sudden, violent circumstances that remain under investigation.

A Life in Performance: From Nickelodeon to Broadway
Kianna Underwood’s journey in performance began early. Born in New York City, she was drawn into acting as a child and quickly made her mark on children’s television.
All That was often likened to a kid‑friendly version of Saturday Night Live, known for slapstick sketches, parodies, and memorable characters.Underwood’s credits extended beyond Nickelodeon. She appeared in the 1999 indie film The 24‑Hour Woman alongside Rosie Perez and Marianne Jean‑Baptiste. She also had a role in the 2003 satirical comedy Death of a Dynasty, which starred Kevin Hart
Her talents were not confined to screen work. Underwood performed on stage as well, spending a year touring nationally in the musical Hairspray, where she played Little Inez during the show’s first national tour. This demonstrated not only her acting range but her abilities as a live performer capable of singing and dancing as well as acting.
Despite these accomplishments, her last credited acting role remains her work on All That. In subsequent years, Underwood did not appear prominently in mainstream film or television, though her performances remained fondly remembered by many fans.
Family’s Heartbreak: A Father’s Powerful Message
In the wake of her death, Kianna Underwood’s father, Anthony Underwood, shared a deeply emotional message on social media, drawing attention not only to his grief but to a haunting concern about the manner in which his daughter died.
His post, which attracted widespread attention, asked whether anyone showed his daughter compassion as she lay injured on the street after being struck.
In his message, Anthony described a moment he once witnessed involving a fox struck on the road — and one passerby stopping to help — contrasting that memory with the possibility that no one might have comforted his daughter as she suffered before her death.
“Did anyone try to comfort my baby as she layed dying in the street alone, or did they just stand around with their phones?” he wrote, expressing anguish and a father’s desperate search for dignity in a moment no parent should ever face.
His words resonated widely, capturing both the horror of the crash and broader questions about compassion during emergencies. Many commenters online reflected on the importance of helping injured people and on the pain of losing someone far too soon.
Struggles in Recent Years: Homelessness and Public Pleas for Help
In addition to the shock of her sudden death, new details about Underwood’s life in recent years have emerged. Local news outlets and eyewitness accounts suggested that she had been experiencing homelessness in New York City, long before the hit‑and‑run occurred.
Neighbors in her Brownsville community described seeing her around the area and noted her difficult circumstances. One local store supervisor recalled helping her by offering food, clothing, and other essentials when she was in need.
In late 2023, All That castmate Angelique Bates, who starred on the show in its original run in the 1990s, made a public appeal for help on Underwood’s behalf.
In an emotional video shared on Instagram, Bates described her former colleague’s struggles and criticized what she saw as a lack of support from individuals and institutions associated with Nickelodeon.
While Bates did not single out specific people, she raised concerns that Underwood was not receiving the assistance she needed despite her earlier fame and contributions to the network.
Bates’ message underscored a recurring theme in stories about child performers: the difficulty some face in navigating life after early success, especially without robust support systems.
Her plea made headlines again after Underwood’s death, with many reflecting on the challenges actors can face once they leave the spotlight.
Community Reaction and Industry Response
News of Underwood’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, former colleagues, and entertainment observers. Social media posts quickly spread memories of her performances, expressing sadness at the loss of someone many had watched grow up on screen.
Tributes noted her work on beloved children’s shows and her early contributions to television that entertained and inspired young viewers.
Some reflections, like those shared by Bates and others familiar with her earlier career, highlighted systemic issues in how young performers transition into adulthood and whether former child stars receive ongoing support once they leave the industry.
Meanwhile, police and local officials continued to urge anyone with information about the hit‑and‑run to come forward.
Tips to the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline or other reporting channels could be crucial in identifying the drivers and holding them accountable, law enforcement officials said.
